Formlabs Form Studio 1: first-print failures
Formlabs announced the Form Studio 1 on October 14, 2026, starting at $699, with shipping announced for November 16, 2026 (Formlabs press release). It's pitched at offices, workshops and home users. That means lots of people will run their first resin prints on one, and their first resin minis.
We haven't tested a Form Studio 1 ourselves, so this page doesn't give machine-specific settings. It's a checklist of the failures new resin printers hit most often, which apply to any resin printer, plus pointers to the official sources.
Before you blame the printer
- Follow the official setup steps from Formlabs for unboxing, leveling/calibration (if any) and the first test print.
- Use the recommended resin profile for the resin you're actually using.
- Shake or stir the resin and let it reach room temperature (cold resin is a very common cause of failures on any resin printer).
- Check the tank for debris after any failure before printing again.
The failures new resin printers hit most
- Supports failed / model stuck in the tank: usually supports too light, or unsupported islands on minis.
- Nothing on the build plate: adhesion problems on the first layers.
- Suction cups and blowouts: hollow or cup-shaped parts facing down.
- Layer separation: weak bonds or peel stress mid-print.
- Soft details or rough surfaces: exposure or resin settling.
FAQ
Is PrintCleric affiliated with Formlabs?
No. PrintCleric is an independent tool. For anything specific to Form Studio 1 hardware, settings or warranty, Formlabs' own documentation and support are the authority.
Will the usual resin troubleshooting apply to Form Studio 1?
The basics of resin printing still apply: supports, orientation, suction from hollow parts, resin temperature, a clean resin tank. Exact settings and maintenance steps may differ, so follow Formlabs' guidance for anything machine-specific.
Can I use PrintCleric with a Form Studio 1?
Yes. Upload photos of the failed print and choose 'Other' or describe your printer. The diagnosis focuses on what's visible in the print, such as support failures, cupping, or adhesion problems.
Not sure which one you've got?
Upload 1–4 photos of the failed print and PrintCleric ranks the likely causes and tells you exactly which settings to change, with sources.
